| The Church Family
The current membership stands at 570. Although the membership, in common with the majority of Church of Scotland charges, is predominantly of 'senior status', thereĀ is a goodly number of active younger members.
There are 61 active Session members, with a further 24 Board members. All elders serve on the Board.
The successful Lenten groups are indicative of the importance put by the congregation on continuing Christian education.
A pastoral Care committee ensures that elderly & infirm members of the church family are visited and informed about the life & work of the congregation.
The Friendship Club for senior members of the congregation meets every fortnight. It is valued for fellowship.
A team of members distributes the monthly magazine to every home in the congregation. Like the other three city-centre churches, St Leonard's-in the- Fields is a gathered congregation. The ethos has long been focussed on the wider church and not restricted to our parish and the surrounding environs. The congregation is a generous supporter of outside caring agencies, Christian Aid in particular. Previous ministers have acted as chaplain to Viewlands Primary School, which lies on the fringe of the Parish.
Church Buildings and Finances
Our attractive A-listed building completed in 1885, comprises the church, vestry, main hall, session-room, modern kitchen and well-equipped office staffed by a part-time secretary. An on-going programme of maintenance has ensured that all are in excellent condition.
The congregation as well as meeting all its committments in respect of stipend and congregational needs, also meets its considerable allocation to Central Funds. St Leonard's -in-the-Fields is fortunate in having, at present, a reasonably substantial fabric fund.
Manse of the Linked Charge The well-maintained manse, in Strathearn Terrace, is a substantial stone-built, semi-detached, four-bedroom family house with an attractive garden & generous off-street parking in the form of a double garage. It is situated approximately one mile from the church, within easy walking distance of primary, secondary and special needs schools.
The Future Both St John's & St Leonard's-in-the-Fields and the neighbouring charges of Perth North & Perth St Matthews, recently entered into a Parish Grouping. As well as being committed to developing a team ministry and creating a united witnessing community in Perth City Centre, the four Kirk Sessions have agreed to pursue various initiatives, encompassing such areas such as youth work, Christian education, elder training & pastoral work. The new minister of St John's & St Leonard's-in-the-Fields will therefore have the opportunity of joining his or her colleagues in making a key contribution to the regeneration of the life & work of the Kirk in the heart of the Fair City. The provision of part-time pastoral help is very much part of the thinking of both Kirk Sessions.
